Residence NM is a minimalist, inward-facing family home located along a busy arterial street in Nicosia. The design responds to the site’s urban intensity by adopting a layered and protective architectural approach, creating a peaceful domestic environment just steps from the city’s edge. The defining feature of the house is its monolithic concrete street façade—an intentionally opaque and tactile surface that shields the living areas from traffic noise and visual disruption. Subtle planting and vertical slits animate the wall without compromising privacy, while a quiet entrance sequence unfolds behind the façade, transitioning visitors into a calm internal courtyard. The upper level, finished in crisp white render and framed with vertical timber fins, floats above the heavier base, offering filtered views and soft daylight to the private spaces within. On the opposite side, the house opens generously to a secluded rear garden, allowing indoor-outdoor living to flourish in contrast to the restrained street presence. Residence NM is an exercise in spatial protection and architectural subtlety—designed to balance urban resilience with the need for serenity and retreat.
