Our proposal for the “Salina Municipal Park” architectural competition in Larnaca envisioned the transformation of a central urban void into a green civic oasis. The core idea was to amplify the site’s public character by introducing a linear boulevard of activity that acts as both a spine and a connector—linking the Municipal Garden, Library, and Theatre through a vibrant, multifunctional landscape. Anchored by a sequence of public uses, the design integrates shaded resting areas, sports and play installations, a water plaza, and an amphitheatrical space for outdoor performances. The strategy strategically places parking on the park’s southern edge with vehicular access from Byzantios Street, allowing the interior to remain pedestrian-friendly and socially activated. A standout element of our design is the surface treatment of the central boulevard, inspired by Cypriot painter Sotiris Ioannou. His geometric, vibrant compositions informed a colorful multi-use ground surface that visually and experientially enriches the park. This gesture, together with the integration of native vegetation, water features, and shaded seating areas, seeks to re-establish harmony between human activity and nature in the heart of the city.
