Hermes is a contemporary residential development that explores the relationship between collective living and individual domesticity within a Mediterranean urban context. The project is conceived as a hybrid condition: a compact apartment block is paired with a series of ground-oriented dwellings, creating a layered community that balances density with privacy. The architectural language is deliberately restrained. A neutral mineral palette, textured plaster surfaces, and timber accents establish a calm and cohesive identity, while a system of perforated screens introduces depth, filtering light and views. These elements serve both environmental and spatial purposes—providing passive shading, enhancing privacy, and mediating between interior and exterior conditions. At ground level, the project prioritises a sequence of semi-private outdoor spaces. Courtyards, terraces, and planted thresholds extend the living areas outward, encouraging everyday use of outdoor space while maintaining a clear gradient from public to private. The integration of water features and soft landscaping contributes to microclimatic comfort and reinforces a sense of retreat within an urban setting. The upper levels accommodate apartments organised around generous balconies and screened openings, allowing for cross-ventilation, controlled solar exposure, and visual continuity with the surrounding landscape. The composition of the building massing ensures that all units benefit from light, orientation, and a degree of seclusion. Hermes reflects an approach to housing that is both contextually responsive and forward-looking. It draws from regional architectural principles—shading, massing, and material tactility—while addressing contemporary expectations for comfort, sustainability, and spatial quality. The result is a development that supports a quieter, more deliberate mode of living, grounded in climate, material, and everyday use.
