Louzinianon City Hotel is a 24-room urban hotel located in a quiet residential neighbourhood in central Larnaka, only a few streets away from the intensity of the city centre. Its position between these two conditions — the calm of the neighbourhood and the activity of the city — became central to the design.

Facing a small neighbourhood park, the hotel benefits from a green outlook that is unusual within the dense urban fabric. Guest rooms are oriented to take advantage of this relationship, while recessed balconies and screened openings create a sense of privacy and retreat.

The building is carefully scaled to its context. Although arranged over four levels, the upper floor is set back from the principal façade so that the perceived street frontage remains three storeys high. This reduces the apparent mass of the building and allows it to sit more comfortably within the surrounding residential scale.

The architectural language draws from familiar elements of Cypriot architecture without reproducing them literally. Shaded balconies, perforated screens and warm earth-toned surfaces reinterpret traditional responses to climate, privacy and light in a contemporary way. The terracotta-coloured screens become the building’s most recognisable element, filtering sunlight, creating layered shadows and giving depth to the façade throughout the day.

Internally, the same material language continues through a restrained palette of warm plaster, timber, natural textures and muted colours. The atmosphere is deliberately calm and domestic rather than overtly hotel-like, reinforcing the idea of the hotel as a quiet place of retreat within the city.

The project seeks to balance urban presence with neighbourhood sensitivity: a compact city hotel that remains connected to the centre of Larnaka while offering a slower, more intimate experience of the city.
